Disseminated data files products at Mercator Ocean

To access these products, you first need to submit a formal request, as indicated in our access conditions.

Email your request to or download the application form (PDF format), then sign it and return by post or by fax.

Standard grids products catalogue

This catalogue presents standard grids data file products, netCDF format, COARDS/CF 1.0 convention. These products are reinterpolation on standard grids from native model grids. Grids are cut into several areas. Each area is reinterpolated on a given resolution grid. This resolution is selected considering both the ocean physics relevant representation (as a function of the area size) and dissemination and storage cost.

PSY1V2: North and Tropical Atlantic (70°N-20°S), native grid: 1/3°
PSY2V1: North Atlantic (70°N-10°N) and Mediterranean, native grid: 1/15°
PSY2V2: North Atlantic (70°N-10°N) and Mediterranean, native grid: 1/15°
PSY2V3: North and Tropical Atlantic (70°N-20°S) and Mediterranean, native grid: 1/12°
PSY3V1: Global (native grid: 1/4°)

Data servers

For users who would like to receive digital products, Mercator provides access to its data via two servers:

A Thredds/Opendap server for real time data less than 1 year old
An archive server for historical archived data

From this server several ways are available for downloading the data:

With the extraction tool

Download the data by a few clicks and select your geographical area, temporal period, depth interval, and ocean variables you are interested in.

With the Live Access Server (LAS)

Visualize and download the data (Ascii, netCDF, csv, etc.).

Directly from the Opendap catalog

Download the data using client software such as Ferret, Matlab or NCO. You must have your client software installed.

The Maps server delivers:

Standard grids products
Native format products produced by model runs. These products are strictly intended for scientists who are part of the GMMC (Mercator-Coriolis mission group).

The user defines how the product is to be delivered:

On CD-Rom, DAT, Exabyte or DLT
Direct downloading from the server via Internet
Server storage which requires having a user account and login
